The popular tiger barb is easy to care for, It is not an ideal fish for a community tank as it has a tendency to nip at other fish and can be mildly aggressive.
Endemic to central and southern Sumatra the tiger barb prefers forest streams and tributaries containing relatively clear water and substrates of sand and rocks.
