Turtle Habitats
When we service tanks that house turtles they are first evaluated for conditions.
- The health of the turtles can be affected by several conditions.
- The animal is checked visually for shell problems. This is the best way to find problems with the turtle's health making sure the shell is clean and smooth with no unnatural pitting or discoloration.
- Then the skin is checked to make sure it is clear and bright (taking into account natural shedding).
- Turtles require UVB light to maintain their health as well as a heat light for them to bask in.
- We will check the quality of the lights and recommend new or better ways to provide the light that your pet needs to thrive in its environment.
- Clean glass or acrylic surfaces.
- Clean decorations as necessary.
- Clean filter and or replace cartridges.
- Clean gravel or sand for debris.
Due to the large amount of debris turtles produce we recommend that a 75% water change or more be done to control smells, especially if there are no other animals or fish in the tank.
